The Imperial Gold philodendron variety is easy to care for and makes a great house plant with it’s fairly unique color combinations. These plants are extremely durable and low maintenance, making them perfect for the lazy plant owner or people new to keeping plants.

Originating in South America the Imperial gold variety gives off a great tropical feel. They are most commonly known for their large, glossy leaves that contain bright and vibrant mixtures of gold, green, orange and deep red colors.

Size

The typical size of a full grown Imperial gold philodendron when kept indoors with the correct care is 50 cm high and 50 cm wide.

Imperial Gold Philodendron Light Requirements

Your Philodendron will perform best when it is positioned in Bright Indirect sun light. Tell-tale signs that your philodendron is receiving too much light is the yellowing of multiple leaves at once, this can be fixed by moving the position of your plant to somewhere with better bright indirect sunlight.

Temperature

Your imperial gold philodendron prefer cooler temperature conditions and will grow best when kept in an area which maintains a temperature of 18 – 25°C .

When your plant is situated outside of this temperate bracket for prolonged periods of time you can expect the development of health issues or stunted growth.

Note: these plants are frost sensitive will need to be positioned inside during cold winter months if your locality is subject to frost.

Humidity

Contained within typical household room humidity levels will assist in keeping your imperial gold philodendron happy and healthy, although within higher humidity levels you can expect larger leaves in the plants new growth. Additionally if your plant is housed in a spot with a humidity level consistently outside of this range you can see here for tips on how to increase or decrease humidity levels.

Watering Requirements

You should water your imperial gold philodendron moderately every several days. When watering be sure to water well until water runs from the bottom of the pot. Aside from solely relying on the watering frequency to tell when your plant is thirsty, drooping leaves is a tell tale sign that your philodendrons needs water. Be careful not to over water your plant as this can lead to diseases such as root rot.

Fertilising requirements

In optimal conditions your imperial gold philodendron should be fertilized approximately every 2 weeks. We suggest using a liquid fertilizer between the months of Spring and Autumn. This will aid in keeping your plant alive as well as promote healthy growth.

Soil Requirements

Imperial Gold philodendron love and will thrive in well draining soil. Using a premium potting mix specifically crafted for indoor plants from your local garden center is typically fine. However; mixing additives like perlite is recommended as this will assist in allowing adequate water flow.

Diseases & Pests

The most common pests that you can encounter whilst caring for your philodendron are mealybugs, thrips and scale insects. Furthermore a wide range of information on combating a large range of indoor plant diseases and pests 

Toxicity

This philodendron variety like most philodendrons are considered to be toxic, it is important to avoid ingesting these plants. If accidentally ingested make sure to monitor for any symptoms and seek medical attention if any occur.
